Associate of Science
The Associate of Science Degree is designed for students that are either time or place bound but need to complete the Associate of Science degree for immediate employment or as the foundation for a Bachelors degree. The Associate of Science degree may qualify as the first two years of a baccalaureate degree and may also be used to satisfy the General Education requirements of all universities and four year institutions in the Utah System of Higher Education. Students are admitted to this program through the University’s regular admission process.

University Studies Requirement: 27-31 credits
Competency = 9-13 credits
Breadth Requirements = 18 credits
Emphasis Credits in the major of choice = 29-31
Electives = bring total to 60 credits

Computer and Information Literacy (CIL) (0-3 credits)
No specific course is required but students must pass a competency exam in computer and information literacy. A student may also take a course that teaches the required skills; simply passing the course does not meet the requirement. Some credit classes that teach the skills include OSS 1400 and USU 1000. The test consists of six parts and a student must successfully complete all six of the CIL tests. There is a $30 fee associated with this exam. Breadth Requirements (18 credits)
General Education breadth requirements are intended to introduce students to the nature, history and methods of different disciplines, and to help students understand the cultural, historical, and natural contexts shaping the human experience. Breadth course also focus on the important cultural, socio-economic, scientific, and technological issues of today’s global community.
Students must take a minimum of 18 credits, including at least one course from each of the six categories shown below.
Breadth American Institutions (BAI)
One of the following courses or 3 credits of approved AP or CLEP or articulated transfer work:

Breadth Creative Arts (BCA)

Breadth Humanities (BHA)
One of the following courses or 3 credits of approved AP or CLEP or articulated transfer work:
USU 1320 (BHU), Civilization: Humanities. (3) or

Breadth Life Science (BLS)
One of the following courses or 3 credits of approved AP or CLEP or articulated transfer work: USU 1350 (BLS), Integrated Life Science, (3)

Breadth Physical Science (BPS)
One of the following courses or 3 credits of approved AP or CLEP or articulated transfer work:

Breadth Social Science (BSS)
One of the following courses or 3 credits of approved AP or CLEP or articulated transfer work:
USU 1340 (BSS) Social Systems and Issues. (3)
FHD 1500 (BSS) Human Development Across the Lifespan. (3)
ASTE 2900 (BSS) Humanity in the Food Web. (3)
Psy 1010 (BSS) General Psychology. (3)
Concentration
Many programs at USU require more advanced courses than are offered through Concurrent Education (Computer Science, Engineering and Physics for example). Students are encouraged to contact a specific deparmental advisor for more information. Students should complete the difference between General Education and sixty credits and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or greater.
